So for those who have followed me on Literotica you’ve probably noticed I haven’t published any new stories there in months. Honestly, I will probably never publish on there again. Every now and then I think about entering a contest but in the end I find myself dealing with a lack of motivation to post to their website.
For those who are new to reading my work, I got my start on Lit. In 2001-2003 I wrote on the Chyoo portion of their website, which is a choose-your-own story site. We used to refer to ourselves as the redheaded step child of Lit as the Lit admins really couldn’t care less about what happened to that site. Eventually I moved to the main site and spent most of my time on the forums there. In 2013 and 2014 I competed in their Survivor contests for authors and placed 4th and 7th.
Why am I moving on? A couple of reasons.
1) The environment in the Authors Hangout forum became too toxic. Certain individuals have gone out of their way to take all the fun out of the forums. The forums used to be helpful, now it’s just a cesspool for a few people to harass and argue with others.
2) Theft of stories. This is one that has driven away a number of authors from Lit. It’s way too easy to steal stories from their site and on a regular basis people find their work posted for sale. Lit’s admins have promised for years to update their site and while I looks like they are finally getting around to it, they work at a snail’s pace. The site has been virtually unchanged for almost two decades now and I’m tired of waiting for them to get around to it.
3) Speak of the admins, they are offering less support for their authors. Not too long ago Laurel was a helpful person and they would help the authors chase down story thieves. Now it was made abundantly clear that they have no intentions of further supporting the authors. Considering that the major draw to the site is the work being placed up there, some by some fairly successful and well known paid authors, it seems like a poor choice. In the end Lit is not Amazon, they can’t just jerk around authors and expect them to keep coming back.
So, sorry for the rant but I wanted to be up front with you.
